Cage dive with great white sharks in the waters off Cape Town

Shark cage diving is one of the most popular and exhilarating activities available in South Africa. From the safety of a metal cage you will be able to get up close and personal with some of the most fearsome predators on earth. The great white shark can reach up to 6 metres in length and is often spotted in South Africa leaping completely out of the water as it feeds. Located just outside Cape Town, we have a launch from Gansbaai to take you to one of two viewing spots depending on the time of year. From May until August these amazing creatures feed 8 km off the town of Gansbaai where a 60,000 strong population of Cape Fur seals lives – the shark’s food. From September until February the sharks move up the coast towards Sandbaai which is their chosen breeding spot; although sharks are harder to spot at this time of year, there is still a 90% chance of seeing one.

Itinerary:

06h00 Pick up in Cape Town

08h00 Meet in Gansbaai for Breakfast and briefing.

08h30 Boat trip (+- 45 min) and anchoring in the Dyer Island area. Anchor site will be chosen, depending on the weather, sea conditions, season and previous shark sightings.

09h00 Start chumming.

10h30 White shark observation and cage diving. The time for the first shark to appear however cannot be forecasted, and varies from a few minutes to several hours. When a shark is spotted, the crew monitors its behaviour, if the shark relaxes, then the cage and divers can be lowered into the water. Shark and weather conditions depending, our aim is to give our guests the best possible viewing experience from both the boat and underwater from the cage.

Snacks and drinks can be enjoyed on the boat throughout the whole trip.

13h00 Return to Gansbaai harbor. Return to crew house for lunch and to watch the DVD of the trip. Drop off in Cape Town.
