Kitesurfing lessons in Cape Town

Kitesurfing has exploded onto the extreme sports scene over the last 7 years. Beaches once solely the domain of windsurfers and surfers have now been adopted by kitesurfers. The sight of huge multi-coloured kites and riders jumping 20ft+ in the air is now a common site on many of the world’s beaches.

If you have ever stood on the shoreline and thought that you’d like to give kitesurfing a go, then this is your chance. Kitesurfing can look difficult but it is actually surprisingly easy to pick up if you get the right instruction from the start. It is an extreme sport in every sense and you must learn from accredited instructors to ensure you stay safe.

Windswept conducts kitesurfing lessons at The Dolphin Beach Hotel, Blouburg. This has perfect cross-shore winds and lots of space - perfect for newcomers to the sport. All our instructors are experienced IKO kite surfing instructors with a vast knowledge of kiteing. The course fees cover everything you need for your kite surfing lessons (instruction, insurance, kit hire etc.). All you need to bring is a towel and some sun block.

We offer a range of courses that are designed for kitesurfers of all abilities. All of the lessons are two hours long and there is a limit of 4 people to each class. Following your booking we will be in touch to discuss which course you require.

Kitesurfing Taster - An introduction to kitesurfing covering weather, safety and all the different equipment. It includes all of the vital basic points needed to make you a safe and knowledgeable kiter.

Body Drag - Putting all the skills learnt on the beach into practice, this is a fun filled session as you are pulled through the water by the kite, experiencing the power and learning control.

Advanced Body Drag - Perfecting those skills and getting you ready for board handling, this lesson will cover one hand piloting, change of direction, board recovery and self-launch/land.

Board Riding – Let’s go! We will cover how to put a board on, water starts and your first experience sliding across the water. What a buzz!

Advanced Board Riding - Once up and going we can offer a wide variety of lessons to push you to the next level. Going upwind, carve turns, jumping and a multitude of tricks or how to surf waves….we have it all on offer.

Windswept kite surfing school has been running for 6 years, offering our kite boarding knowledge to a wide variety of clients, from the complete beginner to the dedicated sailor wanting to learn new manoeuvres.

The school is run by Philip Baker who has an extensive teaching background from skiing in the French Alps, snowboarding in Italy to windsurfing in Wales. From this history of extreme sports there is no better person to guide you through the thrill of kitesurfing during your adventure tour of the Cape Peninsula.
