Ride the Northern Trans Am to cross the Arctic Circle and experience the remote tundra, home to caribou & bears and then ride through the monumental ice fields in British Columbia. So little traffic and so many perfect miles, makes Alaska and Canada a pure joy. Not to be outdone, the USA delivers incredible scenery through endless national parks in the heart of the Rockies.

Itinerary:

Week 1 - Alaska: Arrive in Anchorage and meet local riders. Celebrate the start with a wild salmon BBQ and shooting guns, Alaska style! Ride the infamous dirt of the Dalton Highway to beyond the Arctic Circle and across the tundra. You may see caribou, muskox and bears en route. Arrive at Prudhoe Bay, the furthest point reachable by road on the Americas Continent. Getting to Prudhoe Bay is a massive motorcyclist’s achievement in its own right! Join the Polar Bear Club and swim (or dip your toes) in the Arctic Ocean. Turn south down the Alaskan Highway.

Weeks 2 & 3 - Canada: Pristine turquoise lakes and endless pine forests line your route through the Yukon. Most riders spot moose from the side of the road. In British Columbia, we take the peaceful, pretty road of the Stewart Cassiar Highway to Bear Glacier, Stewart and Hyder (the most southern point of Alaska). If you’ve not seen bears yet, you’ll see them feeding at Fish Creek. Then have your own fresh halibut fish feast at “The Bus”. Riding south to Jasper National Park, the scenery continues to be massive vistas of nature at its very best – towering mountains, blue white glaciers and fresh pine forests as far as you can see. Throughout it all are uncongested, beautiful winding roads to enjoy. We are now in the Indian territories of old - see Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump and learn how the white man almost hunted the beast to extinction, before relaxing by the lakeshore in Waterton National Park.

Weeks 4 & 5 - USA: -Glacier National Park and its famous "Going to the Sun" Road will take your breath away as you cross the continental Divide at Logans Pass. Ride by the bubbling volcanic mud pools and huge herds of bison in Yellowstone National Park. We stay at Old Faithful Inn, right by the world’s most famous geyser. Cody was the home of Buffalo Bill – see the cowboys of old and marvel at the rodeo antics. Then it’s more of the USA’s spectacular national parks. See the famous arch in Arches National Park. Wind your way through the striking red monoliths in the Valley of the Gods and Monument Valley. Then take a remote dirt road out to the narrowest point of the Grand Canyon (North Rim), where there are no other tourists in sight. Our last stop and the end of this fantastic trip will be Tuscon.

Rider requirement: The Dalton Highway present that greatest challenge to the rider, with 800 miles of dirt road there and back. If the weather is against us, the riding is challenging. Once out of Alaska, the riding becomes a delight and is truly "easy rider". Riders must have a full motorcycle licence and should have a minimum of 2 years experience of riding larger bikes. Riders will be riding their own motorcycles, which need to be appropriate and adequate to ride on this type of journey.

With English as the main language and food being plentiful, this is generally quite a chilled out, relaxing trip, once you have conquered Alaska!

Weather information: Alaska can be unpredictable even in the summer. Beyond the Arctic Circle could see freezing conditions or T-shirt weather! This unpredictability continues into Canada, where it can be cold and wet, if we are unlucky. By the time you reach Tucson, it will be guaranteed 45 degrees of dry heat!

Travel health information: You must visit your GP or a specialised travel clinic to get advice on the recommended vaccinations and other health protection measures needed for the countries on this trip. As background, the websites listed below may prove useful.
