Seize the opportunity to join a classical Egyptian dance expert on this fun and exciting workshop that will introduce you to Oriental dancing. Your tutor, Faten Salama, has impressed the International belly dance community for two decades, and her classes focus on all aspects of classical Egyptian Oriental dance. Faten has an impressive resumé; she began dancing at the age of 11 when she was selected to attend the first ever national folk troupe of Egypt dance school for children, she was also one of the first dancers selected for Egypt’s National Folk Troupe, has danced and performed for heads of state, ambassadors, and royalty across the globe, and together with her husband, created her own troupe, which serves as the National Folkloric troupe of Egypt. Faten’s classical Egyptian style captures the essence of all that is admired in the Egyptian Dance Orientale. Her dance is vibrant with deep, soulful emotion and the precision rhythm that are at the heart of this art form.

During this one day workshop, which is divided into two sessions, you will first learn how to put together a Balady routine. It is one of the main components of an Egyptian dance routine and is both fun and flirty. After having completed the Balady routine, which will run between 12-2pm, an hour long break will follow.

The second part of the day, held between 3-5pm, will include an Egyptian folklore class technique for Nubian. You will also participate in a question and answer period about folklore, so make sure you bring questions!

The workshop is held at Astoria School of Fine Arts
