Originally a Cantonese custom, dim sum literally means “to touch your heart.” Dim sum consists of small, highly flavorful dishes which are often steamed, but sometimes fried or braised. Learn the various rolling and folding methods that make these wildly popular dishes both visually stunning and intensely tasty. At the end of class, we’ll pour ourselves a cup of tea and make an appetizing meal out of these incredible Chinese snacks.

Skills and techniques covered on the course: Cooking with traditional Chinese ingredients; shaping, stuffing and steaming buns; learning various folding techniques for dumplings; making custard for tarts.

Menu:

  • Steamed shrimp dumplings
  • Barbecued pork buns
  • Mini spring rolls
  • Egg custard tarts
  • Sample recipes: Chinese barbecued pork and Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce

  • The class starts at 6pm and finishes at 9pm. We require that students wear closed-toe shoes in all hands-on workshops and an apron will be provided for use in class. After the class personal recipes packets are provided for students to take home.
