With Swingin Belfast’s Lindy hop classes you will get the opportunity to have a go at this fun and fast-paced form of jive dance. Lindy-hop is the original jitterbug jive dance and to many, the most exciting dance ever created.

The Lindy Hop is not just a single dance form but a fusion of formal European dance forms and more rhythmic black dances. It grew directly out of the Charleston, and evolved as the jazz music of the twenties changed into the swing music of the Big Band era in the thirties and forties. The Lindy, based on an 8- count rhythmic pattern, is the perfect dance to give full expression to the swinging big band rhythms which pulse along in flowing 8 beat phrases, allowing the music to get into your bones!

These evening classes will also incorporate Charleston, swing jazz steps and authentic jazz routines, giving you a taste of the difference forms of swing dance all to the tunes of the music from the Golden age of the Big Band Era and the best of the swinging fifties’ Rhythm & Blues. The lessons are aimed for beginners, so you need no prior experience, and swing dancing really appeals to anyone, whether you want to try out a new dance style, adapt to a healthier lifestyle or just meet new people and have fun!

Classes are held on Tuesday and Sunday Nights at 7.00 pm and you can come along with or without a partner.
