2 day jewellery making course
Create and design your own jewellery under the guidance of a professional jewellery designer on this basic two day jewellery course in the beautiful setting of the Blackstone Edge moors
The course will teach you a wide range of techniques and you will be given inspiration and ideas, allowing you to channel your creativity into your own designs. The course is designed to be a practical session and the groups are small, with a maximum of 2 people, ensuring you don’t have to waste lesson time waiting to see the teacher. You will learn basic jewellery making skills such as piercing, filing, soldering, melting, rolling, textures, polishing and wire making. All tools will be supplied on the course, but you might want to bring your own gold and silver to melt down, turning an unworn heirloom into a new contemporary treasure.
A delicious home-made lunch is included in the price.
Comments:
Every process was demonstrated and explained really clearly. It was great to see my idea take shape and become a finished necklace that looked really professional. I had a very enjoyable day and now have a very special gift for my daughter’s 21st birthday
Dee Swift, Windermere
We would definitely recommend the course to others and really enjoyed your training, knowledge and friendly hospitality, and the jewellery making of course!

Qualifications
Yvonne worked for Cartier of New Bond Street, London for two years in their diamond and gemstone department. She has always been passionately interested in precious stones, and her experience in their workshop gave her a benchmark of quality and craftsmanship upon which many of her creations are based. Yvonne often uses unusual gemstones not normally seen in jewellery, utilising both facetted and cabochon cuts, and recently has begun to specialise in high quality Opals from Coober Pedy in Australia.
For twenty years Yvonne owned ‘The Last Word’, in Royton, making handmade contemporary jewellery and silverware. She then spent 14 months travelling in Africa, Australia and South America, and on return started up her new home-based studio just outside Littleborough.
Influenced by water and architecture her creations tend to have simple, clean lines and make a strong statement. A satin finish applied to the metal is often used to emphasise the sculptural aspect. Designs evolve from the shape and colour of the stones, each design is unique but can be repeated in a suite of jewellery such as a pendant and matching earrings.
Commission work is diverse, from tiaras and diamond studded suspender belts, to walking stick handles and church wafer trays. Her jewellery is always carefully designed for strength and durability. In addition Yvonne will re-design new pieces from broken and dated jewellery no longer worn by the client, creating heirlooms that will be passed down and treasured by future generations. All work is hallmarked by the London Assay Office.
