Oil painting lessons with Catriona Millar
Oil painting evening classes for all abilities in a peaceful village studio with one of Scotland's most prominent figurative painters
Catriona Millar is recognised as one of Scotland’s most prominent and original figurative painters. Since her sell-out degree show in 2005 at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Catriona has exhibited across the UK and her paintings are now collected throughout Europe, the Far East and America. In 2007 The Herald newspaper ranked her in the top five most collectable Scottish artists and for the past four years the first works to be sold at the renowned Glasgow Art Fair have been paintings by Catriona. She has been a popular tutor at the Tolquhon Studio Workshop since 2003 and her classes are always booked up quickly.
Tolquhon Gallery’s Art Classes are held at Tolquhon Studio Workshop in Udny Green, a picturesque conservation village, 12 miles north of Aberdeen. The former Fleeman’s Shop on the village green has been transformed into an attractive, well equipped studio providing an ideal space for painting. When weather allows, classes also paint out of doors.
Classes are small and informal - no more than 10 people per class – to ensure Catriona can give everyone the attention and help they need.
There are tea and coffee breaks during classes giving everyone a chance to mix and have a chat; wine and home baked cakes have also been known to appear.
Qualifications
The gallery has been created in a Victorian farmhouse and the garden also forms part of the gallery where there are regular displays of outdoor sculpture and ceramics in the summer months. It is set in a particularly attractive location, being just a few hundred yards from the impressive ruins of Tolquhon Castle which is in the care of Historic Scotland. It is also just a few miles from the National Trust properties of Haddo House and Pitmedden Gardens.
Art Classes are run by the gallery and have proved extremely popular. The classes run throughout the year in courses of ten weeks. There are classes for people with all levels of experience led by tutors who are highly experienced artists and teachers.
We also run occasional weekend workshops and painting demonstrations.
