Wild Mushroom Safaris in British Columbia, Canada

Wild mushrooms bloom like crazy in the fall, a little rain and steadily falling temperatures beget an amazing variety of wild mushrooms in a fascinating array of sizes, shapes, colors, textures and aromas in our forests, fields and lawns. Vernon is on the doorstep of the mushroom capital of the world,* *the Columbia Mountain range, where the greatest diversity of mushrooms is found.

Nature tour guide, Roseanne Van Ee, conducts guided Wild Mushroom Safaris in the Mabel Lake area* for people wanting to experience this incredible display of intriguing fungi. *The full day tours are fun and informative excursions through the woods to view all types of mushrooms from spiny, white Coral Fungus to huge, bright orange Lobsters.

Photographers, artists, gardeners, cooks, naturalists, hikers, mycophiles (people who like mushrooms) and anyone with a sense of curiosity will enjoy these tours.

The afternoon includes a session on how to use the best mushroom field guides as the books can be quite confusing to use until you've been given clear instructions and helpful hints. We guarantee anyone who spends a day out on a Mushroom Safari will be hooked on wild mushrooms forever! Participants are encouraged to bring cameras.

Outdoor Discoveries runs nature tours around the Vernon area in British Columbia. The tours are conducted by Roseanne Van Ee, a longtime resident and award-winning interpretive naturalist of the area with a passion for nature and conservation. Her extensive knowledge of the local wildlife, flora, ecology and history is combined with a love of teaching and an ability to conduct highly enjoyable and factual tours. The tours offered change as the seasons come and go and so are always appropriate to whatever is blooming at the time.
