Did you pack your toothbrush?

20th October 2010 > Ooh.com Stuff

It strikes me as surprising that, even when we’ve given you hundreds of suggestions over nearly 500 posts on the Ooh blog, we’ve never given basic advice regarding preparations to travel.  So, aside from “pack your passport/toothbrush”, allow us to jot down off a few quick-fire recommendations gathered from the Ooh.com office.

Number one on the list?  Get travel insurance before you go.  Whether skiing/trekking/beaching, if anything serious happens, the bill will likely be in the thousands of dollars, so it truly pays to be protected.

Top 10 highs and lows of an expedition across Iceland

4th October 2010 > Leisure, Ooh.com Stuff, Travel

Being big fans of everything ‘off the beaten track’ we love an adventurer at Ooh.com.

A favourite adventurer of ours is Alastair Humphreys, who has recently returned from an unsupported crossing of Iceland with his photographer mate Chris Herwig.  Carrying 40kg packs containing all of the food they needed, camping gear, and equipment for both glacier crossing and packrafting, Alistair and Chris crossed Iceland, trekking inland from Iceland’s north coast and then paddling the length of Iceland’s longest river to the Southern coast and Atlantic Ocean.

Here Alistair shares with us his top ten highs and lows of their 24 day trip.

1. Discovering that one of the most varied, deserted, beautiful wildernesses I have ever been to is only 3 hours away from London with Iceland Express.

October Sessions: the best destinations to sneak in an Autumn surf break this year

15th September 2010 > Ooh.com Stuff, Sport

It’s reached that time of year when still-warm northern hemisphere waters are freed of the gawping holiday crowds, leaving empty breaks, quiet Autumn breezes and dwindling summer sun. Which means, it’s time to get your act together and get in some serious surfing. But where?

Don’t overlook Liechtenstein

14th September 2010 > Ooh.com Stuff, Travel

Liechtenstein – an alpine country all of its own.

Our friends at Zoombu tell us why Liechtenstein is the place to put on your travel itinerary this year.

Cuddled in the Alps, between Switzerland and Austria, Liechtenstein is a true intra continental country, and requires passing through two other countries to reach the sea.  Just 24 km long and approximately 6.5 km wide, Liechtenstein can be visited in its entirety in one weekend.

Guest travel post: Melbourne, a city I love

1st September 2010 > Ooh.com Stuff, Travel

As people list more and more cool things to do all over the world on Ooh.com, we’re fascinated by the cities they’re happening in. So we’ve teamed up with bloggers everywhere to get an inside guide to the cities they love.

Today’s post is from Bethany Dortmans, a travel blogger who knows how to spend a perfect day in Melbourne:

Weaving their way through the city grid, Melbourne’s laneways uncover hidden gems and a warm, intimate atmosphere.

Top 5 travel photos we hope never to see

25th August 2010 > Ooh.com Stuff, Travel

My name is Anthony and I am the Travel Tart.

Ooh.com have let me write today’s post on the ‘Top 5 Travel Photos We Hope To Never See’!

Number 1: Argentinian Cows with Mad Cow Disease

Anyone who has been to Argentina will know just how good and addictive the steak is there.  I have a particular love for South American bovine (see my post ‘Don’t Cry For Meat Argentina’).  Believe me, it is the best steak I have ever eaten!  However, if Mad Cow’s Disease ever hits this fantastic country and wipes out their impeccable beef industry, you’ll see me crying in my beer.

Though you would be able to pick up some rather fine leather jackets on the cheap.
