A lover’s guide to London bonfire nights
1st November 2010 > Leisure, Ooh.com StuffRemember Remember the 5th November…
Bonfire Night, a wonderful marker for the beginning of the British winter – the clocks go back and it’s time for us to nest down for the winter. Time too for those singletons out there to take advantage of the chill in the air and to find someone to snuggle up to for the Winter. And what better excuse for a date than Bonfire Night.
We were recently chatting with our friends at The Great Date Guide about the joys of bonfire nights and how romantic it can be to wrap up warm, step out on the arm of another, warm hands on spiced winter punch and hold hands while gazing starwards at the firework displays.
As the oracle on the best places to go dating in London we asked them to offer their cupids view on London Bonfire nights and the best ones to visit for a romantic evening for two.

The Big Debate – “This house believes that French cuisine is a spent force”
13th October 2010 > Food, Ooh.com StuffAs part of our coverage of the London Restaurant Festival this month, Ooh.com was invited to an event last night titled “The Big Debate.” The motion caused quite a stir in foodie circles and was enough to attract big-name debaters and fanatical foodies from all over Britain.
Proposing the motion were ex-Esquire editor Rosie Boycott and mouthy Daily Mail columnist and broadcaster, Janet Street-Porter. Against were Jonathan Meades and controversial food critic AA Gill. Needless to say, sparks flew.

The Turbine Hall at Tate Modern has been carpeted with more than 100 million “sunflower seeds” – the latest commission in the gallery’s popular Unilever Series. Visitors will be able to walk on and touch the seeds – the brainchild of Chinese artist Ai Weiwei – which are in fact made of porcelain. Each imitation seed husk was individually handcrafted by skilled artisans and now covers 1,000 square metres of the London gallery’s Turbine Hall. The ceramic seeds were moulded, fired at soaring temperatures, hand-painted and then fired again over the course of two years.
The 53-year-old artist, who has been under state surveillance, said of the political repercussions of his latest work: “As a gesture it really encourages a lot of young people to express themselves more freely. As a nation, China has to (do that)”. Via: Telegraph
