Get in there quick as places are very limited….
Word is out, that the US’s most trendy culinary pioneers - a razor, a shiny knife – will be hosting ‘test kitchens’ (otherwise known as cooking lessons) in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City amongst others over the next few months.
Run by a razor, a sharp knife founders, Daniel Castaño and the moustached Michael Cirino (see above), upcoming cooking and supper evenings with these renegade culiniairs will be held in July 2010 – Brooklyn, NY (Pig Roast), Chicago, and Washington DC. 6-8th August 2010 in Los Angeles, CA, 13-15th August 2010 in San Francisco, CA and in September 2010 there will be kitchen sessions in Bogota and Cartagena, in Colombia.
They welcome everyone from food lovers to professional chefs but they really don’t mess around! Classes on the timetable include knife sharpening, Sous Vide - a type of slow, vacuum cooking (let them explain), and beginner through advanced applications of hydro-colloids (again, best they explain) as well as the more traditional pasta and jelly making.
Be warned, nothing is traditional about this outfit – except the charm of these guys.
Test kitchen class
As well as their test kitchens, a razor, a shiny knife host educational, theatrical and social culinary events all over the world.
With some brilliant post titles such as ‘Pig Roast, the Porno‘ their blog is certainly worth a look and they create some amazingly creative dishes with names like ‘thousand year egg’ that you would actually consider eating.
They call this, the thousand year old egg.
Geniuses I say and as soon as they come to my neck of the woods I’m booking a lesson.
If you want more down to earth culinary experiences then you could take a look at French trained chef, Tim Ross’s cooking lessons in LA, including lessons on French techniques for everyday cooking and a great class on the Trade secrets in Appetizer making.
If you’re over in Washington DC, Sarah Holt will take you shopping in the farmers market and then back to her kitchen to teach you to cook delicious things with your market purchases.
