Our beloved derelict power station is transformed once again into a winter festival land for the Freeze Festival 2010 where you won’t be able to see the woods from the skis, what with all those beanies and jaegerbums descending on the site.

There will of course be snow, shopping and après ski – but what sets this event apart from any other winter festival, or ski show is the chance to watch the big names of freestyle snowboarding and skiing, competing in the LG Big Air World Cup on the 32m high 100m long real snow jump on the banks of the Thames.

As well as the freestyle competition which continues throughout the weekend, the festival boasts an impressive music line up, with live music performances in the main tent from Mark Ronson, Roni Size, New Young Pony Club, I Blame Coco, and Pendulum playing a DJ set to close the festival on Sunday night.

The festival seems to have come a long way from its rather underwhelming premiere in 2008. This year there is a much more impressive spread of après ski activites on hand between the big air and the music to knock yourself out on – with special discounts in the ‘trade village‘, the UK premiere of freeride flick ‘Deeper’ at the O’Neil cinema tent, a bit of extreme mountain biking, or, most obviously, the many sponsored Après ski bars. (Sponsors include your fifteen year old brother’s favourite Relentless energy drinks, Deperados, Ch4, LG and O’Neil.)
