We’re excited because the number of people and companies listing on our site is growing daily. And as we quietly continue to test and put the beta site through its paces ahead of any launch, we’ve had news in of our first bookings!

Roseanne Van Ee, an award-winning naturalist working in the Vernon area in British Columbia, is running a series of Wild Mushroom Safaris during October, and it’s these safaris which have attracted the first bookings on Ooh! We’re not surprised as Roseanne’s one day safaris sound fantastic.

Wild mushrooms bloom like crazy in the fall and this safari takes place on the doorstep of the mushroom capital of the world, the Columbia Mountain range, where the greatest diversity of mushrooms is found. Costing just over $50 per person, the full day safari will take you on a fun and informative excursion through the woods to view all types of mushrooms, from spiny, white Coral Fungus to huge, bright orange Lobsters. Roseanne tells us that photographers, artists, gardeners, cooks, naturalists, hikers, mycophiles and anyone with a sense of curiosity will love these tours. If you’re in the area, why not check the safaris out - and if you do, we’d love to hear how you get on.

Starting in a few days time, the Ottawa International Animation Festival will play host to the global stars of animation. As Nick Park of Wallace and Gromit fame unveils his new work, A Matter of Loaf and Death, we’ll be wondering ‘Does Nick Park have one of the best jobs in the world?’

Kinsale - Wallace and Gromit

Which makes us want to have a go at animation…..and luckily we’re not going to be disappointed. We’ve tracked down a fantastic film animation weekend workshop in Ireland.

Kinsale 1

Led by animation expert Jane Lee, the two day course for beginners gives you the chance to develop a script, invent and sculpt your very own clay puppets, and to animate, edit, add sound and produce a short claymation film. Here’s a great film a group of three students on the course made:

The weekend course costs just €200, including lunch. You’ll need to book accommodation as well, but we think this is a really well priced chance to do something completely different. And who knows, you really could be the next Nick Park….

Every day we’re finding fantastic new stuff to do – just today we’ve come across a tour of Chinatown in San Francisco with local guide Linda Lee, followed by a 10 course dim sum lunch…and all for just $45 per person.

We’ve found trapeze classes, hip hop tours, chicken keeping classes and this brilliant 2 day course that will teach you how to build your own house out of rammed earth. But there’s still more to find, and we’d love your help. Get in touch at contact@ooh.com.
